Pre-existence and Falling in Love Again

Schola Affectus

Today’s Homily

cute-old-cuoples-6Occasionally you meet these wonderful older married couples who have been together for many years and still seem to be in love each other.  They have a spark in their eyes, or a gentle touch between them, a concern for each other – and it makes you think – they are still as in love with other as they were those first days they met.  Sure, their love has changed – it may be more like a deep slow flowing river than those earlier years when it had all the energy of a waterfall.  But they still love each other – totally. And it is marvelous to behold – it gives us hope!  Even if we are in difficult relationships – or have a history of broken relationships – even if we feel a bit battered and bruised because of our experience of love…. We may feel a…

Provocative Bible Verses: Judge Not Lest You Be Judged

Dan Lacich: Provocative Christian Living

It may be the most often quoted and yet most misunderstood verse in the whole Bible. People who have never even cracked open a Bible have heard and quoted this verse. “Do not judge so that you will not be judged” Matthew 7:1

Usually that verse is used like a hammer to immediately stop any discussion about the rightness or wrongness of a persons behavior. Almost invariably if someone claims that a certain action or behavior is wrong, someone will say, “But Jesus said we are not to judge anyone”. The clear implication is that we can never say if some behavior is sin or not because we are not to judge. Sometimes these words are shouted out in anger and rage, “You can’t judge me!”.

What is possibly more amazing than the fact that so many people quote this verse and the concept of not judging, is that so…

You, Come!

Petal Barclay-Smith

By Petal Barclay-Smith

Change today will not come if we wait for some other person to change or for some other time.  We must be the change we wish to see in the world. Let it start today with you and I.  jesus

We read in the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 19, verses 1-9:

Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.

When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and…

Eternal life after death

I cannot think of anything that makes clearer the urgent need for proclaiming the Gospel to every creature, than the subject of Eternal life after death. True, other religions are out there. But anyone who surveys them will know they are totally empty of any Gospel promise.
The mind cults of the East would offer only transient benefits, even if they did work. But the Gospel has more than mere mental poise in view. The efforts the cults insist must be made to achieve harmony with nature are not worthwhile. Jesus did not come to give us religious feelings or to suggest to us a system of mind power. He came to save us, not to explain how our “inner resources” can be tapped to save ourselves. Jesus was not a teacher of TM, or Quietism, or Stoicism. He was and is, first and foremost, a Savior. As for other religions, which of them offers eternal life now? Some only promise the end of existence. The teachings of “Karma” see life as such a misery that obliteration is the only way out! Then there is the Paradise promise, which consists of endless sensual pleasure. Unending gluttony and everlasting lust sound more like hell than heaven to me. The supreme wonder of the Gospel is its present realization of Life—life of such quality that it cannot fade for eternity. Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26) God bless you. REINHARD BONNKE
